Challenges to Medical Decision-Making in the Athletics Context
On Thursday, Oct. 13, BIOS welcomed University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Assistant Professor, Dr. Christine Baugh. Dr. Baugh's research focuses on health implications of repetitive brain injury in sport and the resultant individual, institutional, policy and ethical considerations. It was a fascinating discussion learning about the challenges in medical decision-making in sport, which include, but are not limited to,:
identification,
cognitive biases,
clinician subjectivity,
risk framing,
incommensurability,
who is involved/who should be involved, and
ensuring robust shared decision-making.
